2024 Mystery Block of the Month Program -
The Secret Garden.
This quilt was designed specifically to use fabrics from your stash. A true stash/scrap buster! Therefore, there will not be a fabric requirement list. As the name implies, the blocks will be "Garden" themed.
Each month will feature a main block - either a 12" or 18" square. These blocks will be constructed using traditional piecing methods. There are no special templates required to make these blocks.

In addition to the main block, there will be accessory blocks. Most are 6" with a couple 6" x 12" thrown in. These accessory blocks can be made using your choice of methods. Patterns will include directions to make them using traditional piecing, paper piecing, appliqué, and appliqué in the hoop for embroidery machines! You choose which method you want to use - or try them all.

There will be instructional videos posted on the website each month to go over the directions to make the blocks.

The three choices for participating are:
In-Person (in Connellsville)
Three class times are available on the last Tuesday of each month. Each class will be limited to 8 participants.
Choose your preferred time:
11-Noon (class is full),
1-2 PM (class is full),
3-4 PM

Pattern Pick-Up (local)
Do you want the full-color printed patterns, but can't make it to class? This option is for you. You can pick up the pattern in Connellsville anytime after the last Tuesday of the month. Or pick them up from me when I visit local quilt shops each month. (Waynesburg, Mt. Pleasant, and Uniontown shops. Dates/Times will be available soon.)

How long do I have to register?
You can register for the online version any time... even after the program starts.

In-Person. As soon as the classes are full, registration will close. As of 1-22-24 there are only 3 spots in the 3 pm class.

How much background fabric would I need to make all the main 12" and 18" block backgrounds match?
To make the main blocks backgrounds match would take 1 3/4 yards. I know you will play it safe and find 2 yards of something in your stash (or your local quilt shop).

How much fabric will I need for the sashing and borders?
Sashing and Border 1 - 2 yards
Border 2 - 1/2 yard
Border 3 - 1 1/4 yards

Would this quilt work with earth tones - brown, yellow, orange?
This quilt would work with any color fabrics. Pick your favorite fabrics! I am going to make one using civil war fabrics - my all time favorite fabrics.
Another option I would love to see is black and white with a splash of color.

I just have a normal sewing machine. Will I be able to do this?
Absolutely! All the blocks can be made using traditional piecing methods - straight line stitching. Paper piecing and appliqué can also be done on any machine. The embroidery option is just a bonus for those that have embroidery machines - but definitely not necessary to make the quilt.

Do I need to bring fabric to the class?
No. The classes are demo/informational. The blocks will all be explained in detail along with the written patterns so you can make the blocks at home.
